AHS Department Scholarships

Application Deadlines

Incoming students:   February 1
Continuing students:   April 1

Award amounts vary from year to year and recipients are typically notified by the end of the spring semester.

Mary King Burrier Scholarship

Applicant must meet the following criteria:

  • Applied Human Sciences’ department major of Junior classification planning to graduate the following year
  • Minimum 3.0 GPA
  • Demonstrate financial need as determined by the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)
  • Submit two (2) letters of reference which outline the following:
    Dependability – Truthfulness, Honesty, Punctuality
    Service – Cooperation, Helpfulness, Responsibility, Willingness
    Leadership – Personality, Self-Control, Initiative
    Loyalty to the Department of Family and Consumer Sciences at EKU

Mary King Burrier (FRESHMAN) Scholarship  

Awarded Freshman Year Only

Applicant must meet the following criteria:

  • Major in an area of Applied Human Sciences
  • Have a minimum GPA of 3.0 – must provide documentation
  • Have a minimum ACT score of 21 – must provide documentation
  • Demonstrate financial need as determined by the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)
  • Obtain two (2) recommendations which relate to this scholarship (forms are included with application)
  • Prepare an ‘essay’ to accompany the application which addresses the following:
  • Career focus and the reasons for choosing Applied Human Sciences
  • Skills which exemplify professionals in the career
  • Leadership capabilities and potentials including prior experiences in school academic efforts, organizations, and community activities

Earl & Joyce Price Scholarship for Dietetics Students

Applicant must meet the following criteria:

  • Must be an undergraduate who demonstrates financial need and qualifies for financial aid from Kentucky majoring in Food and Nutrition with a concentration in Dietetics.
  • Minimum 3.0 grade point average on a 4.0 scale with a preference for applicants with a 3.5 GPA.
  • Provide at least one reference from a current or former faculty member demonstrating their commitment and interest in the field of dietetics.

Roberta B. Hill Scholarship

Applicant must meet the following criteria:

  • Be an undergraduate or graduate student enrolled at EKU with a minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA
  • Major in any academic area within the EKU Department of Applied Human Sciences
  • Demonstrate financial need as determined by the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)
  • College transcripts (official or unofficial) must accompany application

    →First preference is given to a “non-traditional” student (25 years of age or older when he/she first started or re-entered college). 


Ma "Bessie" Kelly Memorial Scholarship

Applicant must meet the following criteria:

  • Be a full time enrolled junior or senior classification.
  • Majoring in the field of Food and Nutrition.
    (If there are no applicants from this major, others can be accepted from the College of Education and Applied Human Sciences).
  • Be in good academic standing and possess a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.75.
  • Demonstrate financial need as assessed by the Financial Aid Scholarship Office.

Amy Baumann Sapsford Dietetics Scholarship

Applicant must meet the following criteria:

  • Be a dietetics major intending to become a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist.
  • Junior or Senior level.
  • Minimum GPA of 3.0.
  • Provide a description of leadership and volunteer experiences expecially as related to dietetics and nutrition.
