Kentucky Early Childhood Director's Credential
What is the Director's Credential ?
It was developed in 2002 by a KIDS NOW workgroup comprised of early childhood directors, teachers, trainers, and university educators. It recognizes the unique qualifications of leadership in early childhood programs. Seven state colleges and universities are approved to offer the program and the proficiency review process leading to the Director's Credential.
Who grants this?
It is granted by the Cabinet for Families and Children and the Office of Early Childhood Development. Currently it is only required in Level 4 of the STARS for KIDS NOW quality rating system.
Who can apply for this?
It is available to persons who are currently in the position of Director in an early childhood program or who wish to have it as part of their career plan. Students enrolled in bachelor or associate degree programs in early childhood may also pursue it as part of their degree program.
How can I get this?
You may follow the program offered by the university to achieve the 12 credits hours OR an experienced early childhood professional can request a proficiency review to determine if all or any of the courses which cover the competencies need to be taken.
Can the KIDS NOW Early Childhood Development Scholarship be used?
YES! The scholarship can be used to pay for the course of study or the proficiency review process. The scholarship eligibility requirements must be met.
