Child Abuse & Neglect (CAN) Background Check

This site is for Eastern Kentucky University students in CDF classes ONLY.

Read the complete instructions below but especially take note of these, which are specific to our department:

• Choose Form DCC-374.

• Do not check any of the boxes at the top of the form.  See attached instructions for what to enter instead.

• You MUST share the results with our department.  See attached instructions for how to do this.

1.  What will I need in order to complete the CAN background check?
♦  A form of ID - either driver's license, social security card, or birth certificate
♦  A debit or credit card to pay the $10 processing fee.

2.  Where do I get the application?
It is an online application which begins at the Kentucky Online Gateway. This attachment will walk you through the process.

3.  How long is this valid?
One Year - if you have a CAN report on file from another semester, check with our department to make sure it has not expired or will not expire during the semester.

4.  Will you accept a CAN Report that I had done somewhere else?
NO, we cannot accept CAN reports that are not sent directly to this department from anyone other than the Kentucky Online Gateway system.

5.  How much does it cost?
$10 payable by credit or debit card.

6.  What if I have a record?
You will be contacted by the Department Chair's office throught your EKU email.  Please check your EKU email often.
